Ah! Here is a report from the terminal now:
$ glxgears
13617 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2723.400 FPS
17517 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3503.400 FPS
17555 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3511.000 FPS
20235 frames in 5.0 seconds = 4047.000 FPS
