The books I was looking at were saying MySQL was in /usr/local/mysql Ok, I am also relatively new to Linux, so knowing where things are at, brings some comfort that I can find what I need to. There is /var/lib/mysql where the DBs reside and where the socket is stored. The my.cnf is in /etc as normal and the pid file is created in /var/run/mysqld. Nothing mystique at all.
