If this "linux 1" command means "init 1" (I don't know much about LILO), you may just add "init 1" at the end of the second line (the one that begins with "kernel...").

Hi there,

I am not so knowledgable on grub, because I always used LILO in the past. With LILO you can interrupt the boot with ^X and then type 'linux 1' or 'linux 3', can you make separate entries in grub.conf what do the same thing? My current entry is:

title Fedora Core (2.4.22-1.2149.nptl)
    root (hd1,0)=
    kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.22-1.2149.nptl ro root=LABEL=/ hdd=ide-scsi hdb=ide-scsi rhgb vga=791
    initrd /initrd-2.4.22-1.2149.nptl.img
