Fedora for the enterprise.

Well I have FC1 running with all the usual server apps, apache/php, mysql,
Sendmail, Bind. It's stable. Although my only gamble is what kind of
security and bug fix support the future will bring. I don't feel like
reinstalling every so many months. For this reason I am looking into
WhiteBox also as they indicate their long term approach to support and
errata.

This being said, as long as repositories remain in existence providing
errata updates I suspect FC1 will be a good solution for your mail server.
The advantage is that it is easy to configure and anyway, even if you change
platforms in future you can always migrate it to another box running
whatever flavour of Linux you want, as long as you use sendmail, in my
opinion.

Subject: FC1 on the enterprise?
Reply-To: fedora-list@xxxxxxxxxx

Hi,

I will probably be assigned the task of installing and configuring Linux
on a mail server that handles a couple of thousands email accounts
(close to 100,000). I had used RH Linux on production servers in the
past, and have been using FC1 on my desktop ever since it came out.

I can't see no reason why I would not use it for this assignment either,
but if folks on this list could share some experiences (not necessarily
related to mail server installations, but any FC1 enterprise use), I
would be most grateful.

BTW: I know about WhiteBox Linux, and I don't really discard it as an
option. Any experiences related to using it are welcome as well
(although I don't think I will find many on this particular ML).

TIA

Andre
