I am sorry if my referring to nVidia has caused logical errors in this thread, 
the link in my mind was the unspecified nature of the format / video card.  I 
spent several months trying to get video out of the Xbox's nvidia 
implementation from a clean BIOS, the shaky nature of ownership of undefined 
formats / registers is painfully clear to me (it worked, but much of it was 
never truly 0wned, at least, not during my time working on it).  And indeed 
for a long time (still?) the NTFS support came with health warnings about 
using it rw.
