You can try using Postfix.  It is a sendmail alternative and much easier than
Sendmail to configure.

    # yum install postfix

Edit the file: /etc/postfix/main.cf (it's heavily commented)

    # chkconfig sendmail off
    # chkconfig postfix on
    # service sendmail stop
    # service postfix start
