When I installed it detected my card as NVIDIA GeForce FX (generic) and in the XFree86Config file I have 'nv' as the driver... Is that what you mean?
No. The nv driver comes with X and doesn't support 3d acceleration, you'll need to get NVidia's (closed source, binary only, non-free licensed) driver from <http://www.nvidia.com/>
