that may not be critical for me since i'll be using vmware in an
environment where i'll have a standard net card.  but figuring out

i didn't have to do that, and running "vmware-config.pl" ran just fine.
now, keep in mind, i haven't yet moved on to installing the guest OS. are
you saying that you needed to set CC to just get vmware-config.pl to run,
or that not having set this will cause me problems down the road after the
install?

and what guest OS are you running?
