I discovered that yesterday too. Fortunately "reboot" did what I wanted.
(Even then, all I wanted to was restart sendmail, but I couldn't
remember the command)

(This is on a non-gui system... not enough horse power on the machine to
run gui, PLUS I can't even get X to work/install on it)
