Disabling root authentication check for kppp

Hello,

I've modified the first line in the
 
/etc/security/console.apps/kppp

file from USER=root to USER=. Next, I've created a
kppp.allow file with my username in the /etc directory. Since that didn't help either I've chmoded all /dev/ttyS0, /dev/ppp*, /usr/sbin/{pppd,chat} and /etc/ppp files and directories to 4777. Still no luck.

I couldn't find any helpful tips in Red Hat 9 docs or in fedora-list arhives. Could you help me, please?
