Try listening to a good sound...
My wireless card only works when I'm using my soundcard. Maybe IRQ stuff,

Some additions as I ran into the same problem:

ICMP goes through, UDP (if not fragmented, like DNS traffic) goes
through also. TCP traffic only works as long as not natting is used to
gain a connection - I can "browse" the settings of my WLAN-AP and
DSL router, but I cannot connect to anything behind that router.

Tuning the mtu does not seem to have any effect on that whatsoever.
