Re: How about slowing down the Fedora release cycle to allow for more QA???

While Fedora Core is supposed to be fast moving and a
great way to get
the latest linux software, there are bugs that are
unacceptable and that suggest that this is not a bad
idea.

For example, I tried to recompile the kernel without
SMP and the build failed
(I even tried it with the default config file, for
i686 without SMP, and that failed to).
In the end, I had to edit one of the source files in
the kernel to get it to work.

While I that recompiling the kernel is not a standard
newbie task, it is something some
they try and is just one example of the numerous
problems that have been experienced with this release.

Taking this kind of action is unnecessary and makes me
wonder how extensively FC1
has been tested. As a result, this product may be
difficult for newbies to use, which is sad
since this was something that RH9 was great for.

Lastly, this is problem of quick releases that is not
unique to the Core. A lot of software that I have used
lately seems to
be suffering from people rushing software out of the
door for a certain date instead of shipping when
a specific quality level has been reached.

Cheers,
Marc
