Bill and Tim,

Thanks for the data points. Since there some ATI implementations darken
smoothly and other non-ATI videos do not, the problem is not ATI-specific.
Which now begs the question, "What package should I associate this problem
with when I submit it to Bugzilla?"

Mike Harris, do you have your ears on? Is this an XFree86 problem?
