I'd always found it to be slow and buggy on my RH7.3 then after an upgrade, RH9 box. It seemed like anytime I did anything other than just upgrading packages, it'd freeze up after downloading them, but before installing/removing packages. Is my 256MB causing the slowness as another fellow suggested?
