maybe you want to read the how to get software part of this FAQ:

there is a link to a yum.conf file that also inclueds rpm servers for 'unofficial' packages.
you can then install the mp3 plugin by the command
yum install xmms-mp3

Red Hat, as a rule, doesn't ship its media players with MP3 capabilities. It has to do with the potential for having to pay royalties to the MP3 patent holder.

You can download an xmms-mp3 rpm, which will add MP3 playback capability.
