In ye old days, drivers used to cache small bitmaps in videocard memory and do the bitblt entirely local to there for speed. So maybe there is a problem with your AGP, either in power, speed, heat, or the memory region set aside for it in the BIOS. Or God help us, a cursed VIA chipset sent from the Bowels of Hell.
