That's not the case, you can quite happily use sendmail with Maildir if you are using procmail as your MDA.

If you put something like:

MAILDIR=$HOME/Maildir
DEFAULT=$MAILDIR/

in /etc/procmailrc it should work. Note the trailing / on DEFAULT - this tells procmail to deliver to Maildir not mbox.

We have been using multi-instances of Postfix for some time. Works like
a champ. NO spam with no RBLs.=20

multi-instances? no spam? no rbls?
