hi, thx for responding.

i don't set my computer to hibernate or anything.  i have walked away
from the computer and left xmms streaming for hours, come back with the
screen saver on, and no issues.

the problem seems to be if i just don't use sound, walk away, come back
(screen saver on, yes), and then no sound.

no hibernate or power save features that i know of.  i dunno if acpi has
anything to do with this...?
