sound dying - nub question

hi all...need some newbie help if anyone is keen to help out.

i have an asus a7n8x board with the nforce2 chipset. fedora core does a
great job of detecting everything about it and makes most of the onboard
stuff work by default with no extra config needed.

i have a slight problem with the audio, and hope for guidance in
troubleshooting. it just seem to die after an undefined time. i can
sit here and stream music thru xmms for hours, walk away for a while,
and no sound will work when i get back...not even system sounds for
gnome. everything works great when i reboot. there are no 'bad'
entries in syslog showing anything dying...

this is what modules shows:

[ryan@dakota ryan]$ cat /etc/modules.conf
alias eth0 3c59x
alias usb-controller usb-ohci
alias usb-controller1 ehci-hcd
alias ieee1394-controller ohci1394
alias sound-slot-0 i810_audio
post-install sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -L
>/dev/null 2>&1 || :
pre-remove sound-slot-0 /bin/aumix-minimal -f /etc/.aumixrc -S
>/dev/null 2>&1 || :

what else can/should i be looking for in order to get to the root of the
problem? is there a way to 'reinitialize' a driver without having to
reload? i'm a bit of a linux nub, and haven't seen any threads via
googling for similar topics...

cheers, and thanks for any help!

-ryan
