I can't speak for Matt, of course, but I've tried this with RH 7.1 and RH 9. 

The other two images were just fine, according the the MD5SUM file from
the RedHat ftp site.

As far as connections problems go; yes, I had some trouble at one point. But 
this was due to the load on the server, and not a problem with the client.
When their server reaches its limit, it won't let you log on; just like many
other ftp servers. Perhaps that was what you were experiencing.

I downloaded the image twice just to be sure it was corrupted; using two
different systems. And, similar to what Matt has explained, neither he
nor I had trouble obtaining that image from other ftp servers.
