Same thing happened to me. You need the rhgb package installed, and you
need to pass 'rhgb' to your kernel as an option. If you use grub, append
'rhgb' to the kernel line in your /etc/grub.conf. Somebody gave instructions
for lilo a day or two back; search the list for that.
