There is the old firewall setup hint but I didn't see anything about how to optimise for ADSL connections so here is my experience.


On some connections, you should cap your upload rate at a value slightly less than the available upload bandwidth. On ADSL for example uploading at full speed almost stop downloads...
As with Bittorrent the more you upload the more you can download, you have to find a compromise, try --max-upload-rate <bw> with something like bw=3/4*(conn_upload). I maxed out a 1024down/256up kb/s ADSL with --max-upload-rate 24 (= 3/4 * 32kB). Without max-upload-rate I had only around 10-20 kB/s.
