If you are not going to be using X windows and/or using the box just for a headless FTP/etc. server (like you implied later), the HW requirements are much less than the published ones. I bet people have Fedora running on some pretty hardware that is pretty old and/or way below the published requirements in some areas. I had RH9 running on a P50 with 32MB of ram and a 1GB HD, and I think it would be fine with Fedora as DMZ ftp server, firewall or similar.
