Sorry if I'm repeating stuff here, but I couldn't find reference to this error in the mail list archives. I'm running fedora 0.95 with the smp kernel on a pentium-4 class system. If I log out of gnome and log back in I get an error with gnome-settings-daemon: "There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon. Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly. The Settings Daemon restarted too many times. The last error message was: Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in." Then it fails to load several of my panel applets. This error happens every time I log out of gnome and log back in. The error goes away if I reboot the computer, but it reappears if I log out and in again. Interestingly, I can log out and in if I end the bonobo-activation-server. I have searched Google for an answer to this problem. It seems to be a common error reported on multiple distros and as near as I can tell, it is related to the control-panel version, although I apparently already have the latest version installed. Any help with this would be appreciated. If I am rehashing an old discussion, my apologies. -Joe -- Joe Dell'Orfano <fullgo@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
