Aha! I was wondering if there was some trick like that, as it seems many
different cards/chipsets are grouped into the same module now (e.g. tg3
AFAICT).

I'll be using the board for a server, so I don't really care. Good to know,
though.

OK, good to know.

Hmm, my kernel definitely didn't detect it. Are you referring to 2.6 maybe?
I'd still be interested in getting SATA support into a 2.4 kernel for now,
so any pointers on this are welcome.

Now that is interesting. For me the install went fine, no errors at all,
but when booting is just stops and does nothing (it's not locked up nor
does it complain about not finding any system disk). Also, I'm not quite
sure why I'm not able to reinstall grub into the drive's mbr. Booting from
the boot diskette created at the end of the install works fine.

Thanks for the pointers, especially for the Gigabit interface.
