Perhaps iptables or your kernel needs to be upgraded

The msg I get when I ping is this:
192.168.1.2 icmp_seq=1 Destination Host Unreachable

Over and over again, but what I don't get is the ip of the linux box is
192.168.1.2, and the xp box is 192.168.1.1 and I typed "pint 192.168.1.1" in
the console and ^^^ that's what I got!

Let's get you pinging the winxp box first...

what is the output of /sbin/ifconfig

what is the output of /sbin/route -n

what is the output of /sbin/iptables -L

what is the exact command and error you get when you ping the winxp box?
