FC1 Graphical Installation Troubles

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I recently attempted to install FC1 on my Dell Inspiron 5150, and I'd like to
give a report of the problems I experienced.

The basic problem with the install is that the basic X server anaconda attempts
to start didn't work with my configuration, forcing a text-mode install.

My laptop has an NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200, which anaconda detects as "NVIDIA
GeForce FX (generic)", using the nv driver. This produces a graphical screen,
but on that is hopelessly garbled beyond recognition. I believe the problem here
is that this chip isn't supported correctly by XFree86's nv driver, but anaconda
attempts to use it anyway.
