(i asked about this on the LVM mailing list, but i figured it was just as appropriate here.) from the perspective of someone who hasn't tried this yet, i'd like to configure a system incorporating: - FC1 - 2.6 kernel - LVM2 + device mapper as i read it, the proper sequence would be: 1) install FC1, laying out my drive using LVM1 2) upgrade to 2.6 kernel 3) install device mapper + LVM2 4) use new "vgconvert" utility to convert LVM1 LVs to LVM2 format and, just to make things challenging, i'd like the option of adding RAID (lvmraid?) into the mix after the fact. so, anyone tried this and have any advice? a couple specific questions: 1) i'm assuming i still need to keep the /boot partition as a regular partition, right? i can't boot from a logical volume AFAIK 2) does this "vgconvert" utility require a logical volume to be unmounted? 3) unless i have some really unusual requirements, there's no reason to not give the remaining entire hard drive to LVM, right? that is, are there any reasons that i'd want to reserve part of the drive for regular partitions for which LVM would be unsuitable? thoughts? if there are no foreseeable issues, i can test all this this week and report back. rday
