That is true.
There used to be a convention in VMS land about the way to write shareable image libraries. The idea was that any new functions were added at the end. The address fixups that resulted generally allowed newer libraries not to break older software.
But to ask another question -- why did these library files appear, then disappear from Redhat/Fedora upgrades?
