I've tested latest git (same as 2.6.18rc4 I guess) using latest ql2300
firmware from qlogic site.
mkfs.xfs /dev/sda2
mount /dev/sda2 /dest
rpm --root /dest --initdb
resulted with:

I was able to reproduce problem with reiserfs, so it doesn't sound as
filesystem problem:
