2.6.11 and later freeze without processor.nocst=1

Kernel versions 2.6.11 and later refuse to boot on my Asus P4V8X-X
board without the processor.nocst=1 option on the kernel command line.
Earlier versions work without any issues.

Is there any information I can supply to help fix this?
