Hi Heitor,

Before I make something wrong and for prevent some misunderstanding, let me just "synchronize" with you ^_^, and

don't worry about your ENG, it's not my native too ^_^

I know you wasted too much time on me, but I would like to get some step by step explanation, I mean exact commands etc, you'll see this when you'll read my questions about your guide lines.

I'm appreciating you a lot for every info you gave me till now.

Anyway:

Step 1

As I said before, I have only these repos remained in

/etc/yum.repos.d/ (after I erased a couple):

adobe-linux-i386.repo

fedora.repo

livna.repo

kde-redhat.repo

fedora-updates.repo

fedora-install-media.repo <--- not sure need to check this once more.

fedora-updates-testing.repo <----  I erased this one for sure.

> Every .repo file is a text file.

> If you created then, thats ok.

I took those repos from fedorafaq as you said.

> I suppose you have installed them with this line [from fedorafaq]

Yes indeed. :))

Step 2

> You will find 3 sections, the first section is [fedora] and is enabled

> (enabled=1).

> To remove a repo, you need to set enabled=1 in every section you are disabling.

> But "don't remove the files".

Mistyping? Did you mean "enabled=0"?

What do I need to do here? Just to disable all repos that have remained in "/etc/yum.repos.d/"?

But do not erase files itself? Is so, what command I need to use? Is it "vi" or there are some other commands for editing files at console?

Step 3

> I really don't like this approach, because this repos, sometimes,

> don't work together.

> To clear this, remove the package "yum-fedorafaq" installed from

> Or this file will be garbage inside you RPM database.

Does it mean to erase "yum.conf" file or those repos I mentioned above?

Step 4

> To repair livna and fedora repos [specially fedora-updates], download

> and reinstall the following packages:

> ftp://fr2.rpmfind.net/linux/fedora/updates/8/i386/fedora-release-8-5.noarch.rpm

> The default configurations will activate only livna, fedora (aka base)

> and fedora-updates (aka updates).

> Without any testing repository.

What  is exact command for this?

Will it bring  back all the "true" repos:

> fedora-development.repo

> Fedora-install-media.repo

> fedora.repo

> fedora-updates.repo

> fedora-updates-testing.repo

+ livna.repo?

At this point I need some more explanation (reference to recourse) on how to get repos without using "fedorafaq" and why is it not so good and what about yum.conf file....

Step 5

> The default configurations will activate only livna, fedora (aka base)

> and fedora-updates (aka updates).

> Without any testing repository.

Does it relate to "yum.conf" too?

Step 6

> # rpm -qa|grep fglrx

> And remove them.

Got it by 100% shall check. :)))

Step 7

> Now that you removed all this strange repositories, let's repair this

> with the original ati package and X11 drivers.

> # yum install xorg-x11-drv-ati xorg-x11-drivers

Looks like all good at this point. But!

When I removed "xorg-x11-drv-ati" it has removed "xorg-x11-drv" too.

Why has it happen?

Step 8

> You will know if a file is the original, if a command like the

> following return "Vendor: Fedora Project":

> # rpm -qi xorg-x11-drv-ati

You mean, that by using this command I'll see if there a true package?

Step 9

> I suppose that know we have repaired every problem created by this

> repos together.

> And restored any original driver from your Fedora installation.

> Let's install the proprietary "fglrx" from livna:

> # yum install xorg-x11-drv-fglrx kmod-fglrx

See no problem at this point. understood 100%

Once again tnx a lot for your attention.

Ivan.
