Are you _sure_ that the modem is ACM compatible, and not a 
Winmodem? What's the brand and type of the modem? Is it listed 
on the Linux-USB site: 
http://www.qbik.ch/usb/devices/showdevcat.php?id=14
What's the /proc/bus/usb/devices entry for the modem?
