For what it's worth: The driver in the upstream 2.6.13 Linux kernel is reported to have scanning and monitor mode support for Orinoco/Hermes cards. I tried 2.6.13-rc2 a while back and scanning seemed to work just fine on my card (Intersil Prism 2 PCMCIA, using the 'orinoco_cs' kernel driver).
