IIRC, some motherboards use Ctrl-Alt-F1 as a keyboard power off 
"hot key". You can't do anything about that from Linux, but it 
may be possible to disable it from BIOS setup.

Thomas, have you tried Ctrl-Alt-F2 to Ctrl-Alt-F6?
