I just fiddle around in gnome-mouse-properties motion tab (usually opened
from Applications menu Preferences submenu Mouse item).

In my opinion, the labels Acceleration: and Sensitivity: are backwards. I
set the so-called "Sensitivity:" (acceleration, actually) to minimum so the
mouse will move predictably the same amount no matter how fast or slow I
move it. I set "Acceleration:" (sensitivity) so that the mouse traverses
the whole screen in the distance I want. Even if you like mouse
acceleration, you might find setup easier with it set to minimum.

Anyways, I am happy now.  I went to the %gconf.xml file, and have only the motion_threshold and motion_acceleration entries with 5.5 and 3.5 values respectively.  It feels just good.
