I forgot to right some important things down.
The output is actually from its brother, on which I am not root.
I've recalled what I did - I ripped out the 3coms and put in netgear ones as I was short of time at the time. Looks like you don't have access to the machine to do physical alterations so I found this that might help you get on track...
