well, first things first.  when i used the speed=4
option in cdrecord, i couldn't install from the disc 2
at all.  the install itself failed.  when i took it
down to 2, the install goes forward.  it appears to
have gotten thru most of disc 2 at this point.  if you
don't hear from me again, you can assume the full
install worked.
