Subject: Resetting Gnome Desktop

It seems something was altered on my desktop profile when I set up VNC. Now, when I open any application, it attaches itself to the task bar instead of opening a separate instance.

Also, my desktop theme doesn't appear. Is there a way to reset these settings to default?

The "chainsaw" method is to boot the machine to runlevel 3 (i.e. np GNOME stuff running), and in your home directory run the commands:

mkdir backup
mv .g* backup

This will move all your GNOME settings (essentially deleting them) and they will be reset to defaults next time you start X.
