Can't use scsi cdrw with Arjan's 2.6.4-1.257smp kernel

Sirs -
I upgraded to Arjan's 2.6 kernels, installed the corresponding
utilities and made the appropriate modifications suggested in the 2.6
upgrade help sites previously mentioned on this list. For some time, I
have not been able to use my scsi cdrw. When running xcdroast or kb3, I
get error messages. For example on xcdroast it says:

scsidev: '1,1,0'
scsibus: 1 target: 1 lun: 0
Linux sg driver version: 3.5.30
cdrecord: Warning Linux Bus mapping botch.
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open '/dev/sg*'. Cannot open
SCSI driver.

Likewise, when I look into the redhat hardware browser, I don't
see any of my scsi hard disks (but they are obviously detected or I
wouldn't be writing this) or the cdrw, and I can't mount any cd's in the
cdrw. xcdroast-scanbus doesn't detect the cdrw either. The scsi scanner
on the same controller shows up and works properly.

I'm obviously missing something. Any suggestions?

P.S., here's the only mention of the cdrw in the kernel startup log:

(scsi1:A:1): 20.000MB/s transfers (20.000MHz, offset 15)
Vendor: YAMAHA Model: CRW8824S Rev: 1.00
Type: CD-ROM ANSI SCSI revision: 02
Vendor: UMAX Model: Astra 1220S Rev: V1.3
Type: Scanner ANSI SCSI revision: 02

And, no error messages in /var/log/messages when trying to mount or
trying to burn using xcdroast. Here's lspci
