How does one make a boot floppy in such cases?
How do I boot into my system now if there
is a problem with the MBR?
Thank you for any input.

Booting the installation cd and using "linux rescue" at the prompt is one answer. That would enable you to chroot to the mounted sysimage and run grub-install to fix the MBR.
