I did get a response from xlsfonts but there was too much in the pipe 
for grep to handle.

Then I used:
# yum install xorg-x11-fonts*

That did the trick.  I probabaly didn't need all the fonts, just the one 
package xorg-x11-fonts-misc, but hey the whole thing was only 47K.
