Uninstalling JRE and quickjava appears to have returned the functionality, although there are many errors related to css and html code which I think can be cleaned up (although this is related but not a direct portion of this thread.) Once quickjava and JRE were uninstalled, the firefox appears functional. I have asked in another thread where to refer the html errors.
