The article is about resizing an ext4 filesystem on an LVM partition. The OP is asking how to convert an LVM partition to ext4, something quite different.

AFAIK this can't be done other than the obvious way: backup, reformat, restore.

Yep, that's what I thought...

I was hoping there would be a way but every method that I can see involves data being destroyed
Oh well, back it up and reformat.
