However the problem is still unsolved. I assume the different suggestions have the same effect and it is sufficient to try one not all (please correct me) I did change the root command line by hitting 'e' in GRUB from root (hd0,0) to: root (hd0,1) -> Error 17: cannot mount selected partition root (hd1,0) -> Error 15: File not found root (hd1,1) -> Error 22: No such partition >From these error messages it is possible to return to the GRUB menu (different to the kernel panic) The old F13 kernel, which are booting partly but failing with some graphic card problems include root hd(0,0), also. Some additional info on the kernel panic (if useful, it is not for me). In the left there is a decimal number in brackets [ 3.625903] which is getting higher in the following Call trace output and ends up to be 3.626393.
