Already done that, and can build and save partitions, freezes when formatting filesystems. I just successfully loaded Mandrake 8.1 a couple of days ago, so I'm pretty sure that the hardware is ok. Sure, it will not find an installation, that's OK. You will get a shell. From the shell see if you can use either parted or fdisk and see if they freeze.
