'startx' is/was a part of 'xorg-x11-xinit' package. that is, that is as it is in current versions sl5.4 that i am running. f12 is still trashed so i can not reply for it. if you are saying that it was not in fc8, i do not recall, tho i can say that i used it in fc8, as i always boot 'level 3' and i have always used "alias kde='startx'" in my 'bash.rc' file. [i am a lazy typer who like terse.] script is located as '/usr/bin/startx', possibly you do not have '/usr/bin' in your "PATH", tho i would not think so. > "Doc" Savage warned me about this. about 'startx' not available or having trouble. i do not recall his post. > I'm starting over after blowing away the FC8 install. i wish i could run a fedora on my t380ed thinkpad, but not enough memory, so i will be loading 'dsl', when i 'round2it'. much luck. -- peace out. tc,hago. g . **** in a free world without fences, who needs gates. ** help microsoft stamp out piracy - give linux to a friend today. ** to mess up a linux box, you need to work at it. to mess up an ms windows box, you just need to *look* at it. ** learn linux: 'Rute User's Tutorial and Exposition' http://rute.2038bug.com/index.html 'The Linux Documentation Project' http://www.tldp.org/ 'LDP HOWTO-index' http://www.tldp.org/HOWTO/HOWTO-INDEX/index.html 'HowtoForge' http://howtoforge.com/ ****
