Thus modprobe.conf file has been deprecated for sometime. If you added new hardware, and you booted and everything worked, then everything should be fine. If something did not work, and you need to add a file in /etc/modprobe.d/ directory, then add it and reboot. But this should not be needed anymore. udev usually takes care of these things automagically most of the time.
