Yes, I should have mentioned that I tried that, but there are just so many differences that the comparison would be too difficult. I even tried a 'make defconfig' with the addition of compiling in directly support for the aacraid, initrd, sd_mod, and a few others, and it still won't boot. It's either a kernel bug or I'm missing something, like ACPI drivers, or something else that it depends on.
