Well, I do not know if I can help, but I've been running fedora on a
dell e6500.  The card is Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82567LM
Gigabit Network Connection (rev 03)

Have you tried a liveCD??

For what it is worth, I'm running bios A22 and I've had to add to the
kernel boot line the following: iommu=soft acpi_osi=Linux

iommu=soft  - this is so that the nvidia graphics can be used.  Without,
              then I get a blank screen when graphics starts
acpi_osi=Linux - this is so that the F8 key works correctly.  I think
                 the dell default is for windows 7.
